Anti-virus protection installed on all NTCHosting POP3 and SMTP servers
Last information update - Monday, April 19, 2004

Automated protection from e-mail viruses was installed on all NTCHosting SMTP and POP3 servers in the week of April 12, 2004.

The anti-virus software provides protection for over 20,000 existing viruses. New virus definitions are downloaded every two hours to provide maximum protection to all NTCHosting customers.

If your PC is infected by a virus, which spreads by e-mail, NTCHosting anti-virus protection will not allow the virus to spread using NTCHosting SMTP servers. The same is valid when you receive your e-mail from NTCHosting POP3 servers.

You should all be aware of the fact that any anti-virus protection can save you only from existing and recognized viruses. This is so, because unfortunately the people who create and spread viruses over the world have the last say on this issue.

NTCHosting beg all customers for understanding regarding viruses. All Internet surfers are vulnerable to new viruses and cannot be protected from them until definitions for these viruses are written, which takes some time.

NTCHosting hopes that you will be satisfied with the new virus protection service, which is provided completely free of charge.

Below, we will give you a short definition of POP3 and SMTP from the web hosting glossary.

SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - The most likely protocol that you use to send e-mail via your Internet Services Provider. It can be used with both POP3 and IMAP4.

POP3
POP3 is an electronic mail protocol used to retrieve messages stored on an Internet or local e-mail server. POP3 is called a 'pull' protocol. When a client wants to check his mail-box for messages, he has to connect to his Internet Service Provider's mail server and use POP3 to login to its mailbox and download his messages. POP3 is very well suited for dial-up environments since the client doesn't have to be attached to the Internet when another user is trying to send him mail. The sent e-mail message arrives at the server and is stored in the user's personal mailbox. The mailbox is usually always available on the server and it is almost always possible to receive your mail.
