NS Records are among the most important DNS entries for a domain name. Their main task is to identify the names of the DNS servers and hence, the availability of a domain name. An NS change is required when you switch to a new hosting provider. Custom DNS Records
The possibility to exert control over your domain name is related to certain WHOIS Management and DNS management services provided by both domain registrars and web hosting providers. While the WHOIS control option concerns only the formal part of a domain registration and serves for identification of the domain owner in the public Internet space, the Custom DNS Records option refers to the functional side of the domains and is responsible for their online availability and behavior.NS Records overview
One of the basic domain management options ensured by domain registrars and web hosts is the possibility to edit the NS Records for a domain. NS records (Name Server Records) represent the basic infrastructure on which the Domain Name System (DNS) is built. Along with the other DNS records, they are stored in DNS zone files and users can make a DNS reference for them.

The main mission of the NS records is to identify the names of the DNS servers (primary and secondary) responsible for a certain zone and thus - the availability (DNS resolution) of a domain name. It is required that each DNS server of a certain DNS zone has its own NS record assigned. This is done for backup purposes, so that when the primary DNS is not available at a given moment the resolution request is sent to the secondary DNS.
It is important to know that NS records are only responsible for defining the names of DNS servers within a zone, i.e. they do not represent IP addresses, necessary for a DNS resolution. For that purpose, administrators assign A records (IP addresses) to the NS records for certain primary and secondary DNS servers, in order for a connection to be established with the servers and a DNS resolution operation to take place.
How to check up NS records
There are many online-based DNS look-up tools, allowing for domain owners to check up the NS records for their domain names. To make an NS look-up simply specify your domain in the search box and hit the corresponding search button. Within seconds the Name Server Records responsible for your domain will be returned, including both the hostnames and their corresponding IP addresses.
